Lahore High Court Orders Release of 13 PTI Workers, Declares Their Detention Illegal

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has declared the detention orders against 13 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers null and void, and directed their immediate release.
According to private TV channel Hum News, the court accepted a petition challenging the illegal detention and annulled the orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Nankana.
Justice Farooq Haider heard the petition filed by Suhail Manzoor. The petitioner’s lawyer, Malik Ahad Awan, argued that on November 21, the DC of Nankana had unlawfully and beyond his authority issued detention orders against 13 political workers.
The petition contended that such detention of political activists is not only illegal but also violates their fundamental rights.
The government’s counsel stated that the detentions were ordered due to concerns about potential anti-government activities. The court, expressing dissatisfaction with this reasoning, canceled all detention orders and instructed authorities to release the workers immediately.
