Karachi’s Air Declared Hazardous as AQI Reaches 225; Lahore Ranks 5th Among Most Polluted Cities

KARACHI — The air quality in Karachi has been declared hazardous, raising serious health concerns for residents. According to the global environmental monitoring website, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 225 earlier today — a level considered harmful even for healthy individuals.
Despite government measures, Punjab has also failed to see meaningful improvement in air pollution levels. Lahore continues to remain among the world’s most polluted cities, currently ranking 5th on the list. The city’s particulate matter (PM) level was recorded at 198, placing it in the “unhealthy” category.
Environmental experts warn that prolonged exposure to such high pollution levels can lead to respiratory illnesses, eye irritation, and other health complications, advising citizens to limit outdoor activities and wear masks when necessary.
