Pakistan Takes Major Step Toward Stronger Digital Connectivity as Global Submarine Cable Reaches Karachi

KARACHI — Pakistan has moved closer to enhanced global digital integration with the arrival of a world-class submarine cable at Karachi’s Hawks Bay shoreline.
The high-capacity SE-ME-WE 6 (South East–Middle East–Western Europe 6) submarine cable officially landed at Hawks Bay, where a special installation ceremony was held. Federal Secretary for IT and Telecom, Zarar Ahmad Khan, attended the event.
According to the Ministry of IT spokesperson, the cable spans a total length of 21,700 kilometers, originating from Singapore and extending all the way to France, with Karachi serving as a strategically important landing point along its route.
With SE-ME-WE 6 becoming operational, Pakistan will be connected to numerous countries through stronger, faster, and more reliable data links—significantly boosting the nation’s digital infrastructure and international connectivity.
