China’s Bizarre ‘Cockroach Coffee’ Gains Popularity at Beijing Museum

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — An unusual coffee served at a Beijing museum in China has captured public attention for its highly unconventional ingredients — powdered cockroaches and dried yellow mealworms.
According to Chinese media reports, the “roach coffee” is priced at 45 yuan (approximately USD 6) and is offered at a coffee corner inside an insect-themed museum. The name of the museum has not been disclosed.
A staff member revealed that the coffee was introduced in late June, but it has recently gone viral online. He explained that since the museum focuses on insects, offering insect-based beverages seemed like a fitting idea.
In traditional Chinese medicine, cockroach powder is believed to help improve blood circulation, while protein-rich mealworms are considered beneficial for boosting the immune system.
The bizarre beverage has sparked both curiosity and debate, with many visitors trying it out for the novelty factor.
