Economic Growth Impossible Without Industrial Expansion, Says PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that sustainable economic growth, job creation, and increased national income are not possible without robust industrial development.

He made these remarks while chairing the first review meeting of the private-sector committee established to promote industrial growth in Pakistan. The committee presented its recommendations, which the prime minister welcomed, stressing that industrial expansion is vital for accelerating economic progress and boosting employment and incomes.

PM Shehbaz said that improving the ease of doing business and increasing investment remain top priorities of the government. He noted that private-sector proposals are crucial for shaping Pakistan’s industrial future and appreciated the business community for drafting detailed and practical suggestions. He directed that these recommendations be thoroughly examined to formulate an actionable implementation plan.

The prime minister acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s business community in supporting government policies during difficult times and helping steer the country out of economic crises. He said that, with the grace of God, Pakistan’s economic trajectory is improving, but more effort is required to ensure sustainable national development.

Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Jam Kamal Khan, Ahad Khan Cheema, Ali Pervaiz Malik, the PM’s adviser Muhammad Ali, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, and Special Assistants Haroon Akhtar and Saqib Shirazi—along with industrialists from the industrial working group—attended the meeting.

During the session, participants shared policy proposals aimed at enhancing industrial growth and boosting investment. A comparative analysis of Pakistan’s industrial competitiveness with regional countries was also presented.

PM Shehbaz appreciated the recommendations across various economic sectors and directed that the new proposals be incorporated into the national policy framework.
