ECP Takes Notice of KP CM Sohail Afridi’s Alleged Threatening Remarks Ahead of By-Election

ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of alleged threatening remarks made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi towards government officials assigned election duties for the upcoming by-election.

According to sources, the ECP has summoned a meeting today at 11:30 AM to review the matter and consider appropriate legal action against the chief minister.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the KP Chief Minister rejected the allegations, stating that Sohail Afridi’s remarks were being taken out of context. He termed the controversy “political point-scoring,” insisting that the chief minister did not issue any threats but merely emphasized enforcement of the law.

The spokesperson further said that the provincial government is committed to ensuring a transparent and impartial by-election at all costs.

The controversy emerged after Sohail Afridi, while addressing a public gathering in Abbottabad, claimed that PTI’s candidate—Omar Ayub’s wife—would win the November 23 by-election with 200,000 votes. He also warned administration and police officials that if any “unpleasant incident” occurred on polling day, they would “not remain in their positions by night.”

The ECP is expected to deliberate on the matter in today’s meeting and determine the next steps.
