Warning for Pakistanis Aspiring to Go to Canada: IRCC Issues Important Advisory on Visa Fraud

ISLAMABAD: The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a critical advisory for Pakistani citizens intending to travel to Canada, aiming to protect them from visa fraud and financial loss.
According to media reports, a recent scam surfaced in Islamabad where fraudsters impersonated the Canadian High Commission. Following this, the High Commission warned citizens to remain vigilant.
The IRCC clarified that every individual has rights and freedoms under Canadian law. The advisory revealed that some fraudsters attempted to collect **250 to 450 euros** through fake Google Maps numbers under the guise of consular or visa appointments.
The Canadian High Commission emphasized that **IRCC officers never request payments via email, phone, or bank transfers**. All fees must be paid **only through the official online government portal**.
The advisory further cautioned that foreigners arriving in Canada may face various scams, including impersonation of officials, phishing emails, fake prizes, tax fraud, and computer viruses.
IRCC stressed that no one can guarantee a job, visa, or permanent residency except **authorized immigration officers**. Signs of fraud include:
* Requests to deposit money into personal bank accounts
* Pressure for immediate payments
* Demands via Western Union or gift cards
* Threats of arrest or deportation
* Promises of special discounts or fast-tracked processing
* Contact through free email services or social media
The advisory urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities immediately.
