Balochistan Assembly Passes Joint Resolution Against Sindh Police Over Alleged Injustices to Pashtuns in Karachi

QUETTA – The Balochistan Assembly on Monday passed a joint resolution against the Sindh Police, condemning alleged injustices and harassment faced by Pashtun and Balochistan-origin residents living and working in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.
The session, chaired by Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, began an hour late. Opposition MPA Asghar Ali Tareen presented the resolution, stating that people from Balochistan who run hotels and other businesses in Karachi face growing difficulties and mistreatment. He questioned who would ensure their protection, asserting that Pashtuns were being humiliated in Sindh.
Members from the PML-N, National Party, and other opposition groups supported the resolution. Zarak Khan Mandokhail noted that Pashtun businessmen in Karachi face serious challenges, while MPA Molana Hidayat ur Rehman said Balochistan residents were being mistreated in Sindh and urged the Chief Minister of Sindh to address the issue. MPA Malik Naeem Bazai also claimed that Pashtuns were facing oppression in the province.
Prince Agha Umar Ahmedzai suggested forming a committee to resolve the matter, while Barkat Ali Rand recommended meeting the Sindh Chief Minister and Inspector General of Police regarding the reported mistreatment.
Responding to the debate, Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani stated that the PPP and Sindh government have no intention of harassing anyone and urged the opposition to withdraw the resolution. Another provincial minister, Ali Hassan Zehri, emphasized that with Karachi’s population exceeding 35 million, the Sindh government had not targeted any community. He added that if issues existed, the Balochistan government was ready to formally discuss them with Sindh authorities.
Despite the government’s stance, the Assembly approved the resolution, which accuses Sindh Police of mistreating citizens from Balochistan in Karachi and Sindh.
Lawmakers also agreed to form a parliamentary committee that will work with the Balochistan government to take measures to prevent injustices against Pashtun and Balochistan-origin residents in Sindh.
