Constitutional Court Stays Sindh High Court Ruling on Public Parks in Karachi

Karachi: The Constitutional Court has issued a stay on the Sindh High Court’s decision regarding the commercial use of public parks in Karachi for sporting purposes. The court has also issued notices to the parties and adjourned the hearing until November 27.

The case pertains to an appeal filed by the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) against the Sindh High Court’s ruling. A three-member bench of the Constitutional Court, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, heard the matter.

KMC’s lawyer stated that the case concerns the powers of the municipal body. KMC had passed a resolution approving the use of public parks for sports activities. However, the Sindh High Court had ruled that KMC did not have the authority to do so. The municipal corporation subsequently filed an appeal against that decision.

The Constitutional Court noted that the matter is of public interest and accordingly issued a stay on the Sindh High Court verdict. Notices were issued to all parties, and the next hearing was scheduled for November 27. The lawyer representing the petitioner also stated that contempt of court applications had been filed against them.
