Supreme Court Expresses Anger at Government Agencies for Failing to Stop Drug Supply

Islamabad: Justice Jamal Mandokhail of the Supreme Court expressed strong displeasure with government agencies for failing to prevent the supply of drugs, questioning why narcotics are not stopped at the border and how they continue to reach urban centers.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Mandokhail, was hearing a bail application in a drug-related case and directed the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to submit CCTV footage of the accused. During the proceedings, Justice Mandokhail remarked, “How do drugs reach the cities? Why are they not stopped at the border? How do they travel hundreds of kilometers inland?”

He further criticized the systemic negligence, stating, “This is Zia-ul-Haq’s legacy; now we have to bear it. This is not about five or ten kilograms; drugs come in tons. When the Taliban shut down drug factories in Afghanistan, production shifted here. In three districts of Balochistan, narcotic crops are being cultivated.”

Justice Mandokhail added that while everyone is aware of the problem, no one takes meaningful action. “The ANF’s role is not to seize small quantities but to dismantle supply chains. Small seizures are something the police in cities can handle,” he remarked.

The court later adjourned the hearing on the bail application of a courier company manager.
