Punjab Decides to Celebrate Basant in February Next Year Instead of January

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to celebrate the traditional Basant festival next year, but the event will be held in February instead of January.

According to reports, the Home Department and district administration have prepared a plan for holding Basant in Lahore next year. However, the festival will be celebrated at a time different from the traditional January schedule.

Sources said the timing has been adjusted in view of the expected start of Ramazan in February, with the authorities considering holding Basant during the final days of January. The final date will be announced after approval from the provincial government.

Sources added that preparations would take into account the experience and arrangements of the previous year. Permission for the manufacturing of kite string, kites and related materials is also expected to be granted soon.

All matters related to kite flying and Basant will be finalized under a defined set of rules and regulations, sources said.
