Punjab Implements Property Amendment Act, Lifts Stay Orders in 575 Cases
LAHORE: The Property Amendment Act has become operational in Punjab, resulting in the lifting of stay orders in 575 cases, officials said on Friday.
Following the implementation of the law, Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Justice Aalia Neelum has designated Additional Sessions Judges as tribunals across 36 districts of the province. The list of appointed tribunal judges has also been forwarded to the Punjab government.
Under the new framework, Additional Sessions Judges acting as tribunals will have the authority to adjudicate land dispute cases and, in cases where illegal occupation of property is proven, impose sentences ranging from three to ten years.
In Lahore, Additional Sessions Judge Saifullah Sohail has been appointed as tribunal, while in other districts appointments include Muhammad Ashfaq (Kasur), Nadeem Ahmed Soheil Cheema (Attock), Muhammad Salabat Javed (Bahawalnagar), Sahir Islam (Bahawalpur), and Muhammad Azam Javed (Bhakkar).
Similarly, tribunals have been designated in multiple districts including Chiniot, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Khanewal, Khushab, Lodhran, and Layyah, among others.
Additional appointments include Muhammad Fakhraftab Ahmad (Mandi Bahauddin), Abdul Ghafoor (Mianwali), Ghazala Yasmeen (Multan), Muhammad Ahmed Hasnain Khan (Muzaffargarh), Alam Sher (Narowal), Mujahid Sherdil Cheema (Nankana Sahib), Khalil Ahmed Khan (Okara), Asad Hafeez (Pakpattan), Chaudhry Qasim Javaid (Rawalpindi), Muhammad Ashraf (Rajanpur), Muhammad Bilal (Rahim Yar Khan), Muhammad Naeem (Sahiwal), Abid Raza Khan (Sialkot), Abdul Hameed (Sheikhupura), Zafar Hayat (Sargodha), Muhammad Kashif (Toba Tek Singh), and Muhammad Imran (Vehari).
Officials said the implementation of the Property Amendment Act and the establishment of tribunals is being seen as a major step toward improving legal proceedings related to land disputes and tackling land grabbing cases more effectively.
