Qatar’s Emir Announces Visit to Pakistan; Pledges Stronger Ties with President Zardari, Agrees to Boost Defense and Agricultural Cooperation

Doha: President Asif Ali Zardari held a significant meeting with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha, during which the Emir announced plans to visit Pakistan early next year.

During the meeting, Sheikh Tamim expressed pride in Pakistan’s achievements and praised the contributions of the Pakistani community in Qatar, expressing a desire to further increase their presence in the Gulf state.

President Zardari conveyed warm wishes from the government and people of Pakistan and reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to strengthening their historic and brotherly ties. The Emir of Qatar welcomed the recent Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defense agreement, calling it timely and important, and highlighted Pakistan’s unique position as a nation maintaining balanced relations with China, the West, and the Gulf states.

President Zardari proposed expanding cooperation in defense, defense production, agriculture, and food security. The Emir agreed and instructed his officials to initiate immediate follow-up engagements.

President Zardari also praised Qatar’s role in hosting the Doha peace talks and facilitating regional dialogue, particularly concerning Afghanistan. The Emir expressed hope that Pakistan and Afghanistan would resolve their ongoing issues through mutual understanding.

The meeting was also attended by PPP Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, along with Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar.
