KP Chief Minister Announces Grand Peace Jirga, Vows to Resist “Closed-Door Decisions”

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced the convening of a grand peace jirga on October 25 in Khyber District to promote lasting peace and stability in the province.
In a post on social media platform *X*, Afridi said the wide-ranging jirga will include tribal elders, political and social leaders, and youth representatives. He emphasized that the event will be entirely non-political and aimed solely at fostering harmony and stability in the region.
The Chief Minister declared that decisions about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s future must reflect the will of its people. “We will not allow decisions made behind closed doors to be imposed on the public,” he asserted, adding that the province’s people will determine their own destiny and way of life.

Afridi reaffirmed that his government stands firmly with the ideology of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and remains committed to safeguarding public interests.
It is worth noting that after taking oath, CM Sohail Afridi approached the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail to discuss provincial matters and cabinet formation. However, the court’s registrar raised preliminary objections to the petition. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir will hear the case, along with the objections, on Monday.
The petition was filed through Advocate General Shah Faisal and submitted by Advocate Ali Bukhari, arguing that consultation with the PTI founder is essential for the province’s governance and cabinet formation.
