Punjab Launches Double-Decker Bus Service from Lahore to Sheikhupura to Promote Tourism

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched a double-decker bus service from Lahore to Sheikhupura to promote tourism and showcase the region’s historical landmarks.
According to *Dunya News*, the service, initiated by the Punjab Tourism and Archaeology Department, will operate every Saturday and Sunday, taking tourists from Lahore to Sheikhupura’s heritage sites. The fare has been set at Rs 1,200 per person.
The inaugural tour included visits to the shrine of *Pir Waris Shah* and the *Hiran Minar*. Tourists enjoyed activities such as boating and cycling at Hiran Minar, while a traditional “Heer Khwani” (recitation of Waris Shah’s poetry) event was organized in Sheikhupura.
Residents have praised the initiative as a significant step toward boosting tourism in the city, noting that the two-day tour has given new recognition to Sheikhupura’s cultural and historical heritage. The double-decker bus service has also sparked growing interest among citizens of Lahore and nearby districts.
Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth said Sheikhupura is being developed as a tourism hub, while Additional Secretary Tourism Sadaf Zafar emphasized that the project aims to promote the local economy and preserve the province’s historical legacy.
