Evacuation of Afghan Refugees Continues at Chaman Border; Trade Activities Remain Suspended for Second Day

Chaman: The repatriation of **Afghan refugees** through the **Pak-Afghan border at Bab-e-Dosti** in Chaman has resumed, while **cross-border movement and trade activities** remain **completely suspended for the second consecutive day**.
According to officials, Afghan nationals are being allowed to return to their homeland, but **bilateral trade, immigration services, and pedestrian movement** across the border are still **halted**.
**Deputy Commissioner Chaman Habib Bangalzai** told *V News* that official cross-border operations through Bab-e-Dosti remain suspended, though the **repatriation of Afghan families** resumed early in the morning.
“The administration has arranged **temporary shelters, food, drinking water, and medical facilities** to ensure that returning families do not face any hardships,” he said.
He added that while all forms of movement across the border were suspended yesterday, **special permission has now been granted only for refugee repatriation**.

The **immigration system, visa, and passport-based travel** remain suspended, while **bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan** has come to a complete standstill. Dozens of **trade vehicles and cargo trucks** are stranded on both sides of the border, raising fears of **heavy financial losses for traders**.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, **security forces are on high alert**, with additional troops deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. “The administration is fully vigilant, and the **law and order situation around the border areas** is being closely monitored,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the government’s aim is to **normalize bilateral relations** and ensure the **dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees** on humanitarian grounds.

Official sources revealed that **over 150,000 Afghan refugees** have so far returned to Afghanistan from various districts of **Balochistan**, and the repatriation process is continuing in **phases**.
Meanwhile, despite the border tensions, **conditions in Chaman city and surrounding areas remain relatively calm**. Markets are open, public transport has been **partially restored**, and residents are **closely observing the situation**.
