Bobby Deol’s Upcoming Film *Bandar* Sparks Controversy Ahead of Release

MUMBAI: Bollywood filmmaker **Anurag Kashyap** has clarified that his upcoming film *Bandar*, starring **Bobby Deol** in the lead role, is **not related to the #MeToo movement** nor does it aim to highlight any sexual narrative.
Addressing media queries, Kashyap said that the **film’s theme has been misunderstood** and urged people not to make it controversial without knowing its actual context.
Inspired by real-life events, *Bandar* revolves around a **fallen movie star accused of sexual assault**. The film explores **courtroom silences, social injustices, and the fragility of the legal system**. It also stars **Saba Azad** and **Sapna Pabbi** in key roles, with a screenplay co-written by **Kashyap and Sudeep Sharma**.
Kashyap emphasized that *Bandar* focuses on its **story, characters, and social backdrop**, and was never intended to malign anyone or exploit sensitive issues. His clarification came after **media speculation suggested** that the film might be linked to the #MeToo movement.
Meanwhile, actress **Sanya Malhotra**, who plays Bobby Deol’s sister in the film, described *Bandar* as an **intense and transformative experience**. She revealed that she agreed to join the project even before reading the full script.
Recalling one emotional scene, Sanya said, *“I was trembling with anger; my legs were shaking, and I was screaming — and Bobby Deol was crying, even though there was no dialogue.”*
She praised Anurag Kashyap’s direction style, saying his approach — *“Don’t overthink, just listen”* — helped her **surrender to the role** and enjoy every moment on set.
