Lahore’s Air Quality to Improve Today, Light Rain Expected: New Smog Monitoring System

Lahore: Punjab’s first-ever smog monitoring and forecasting system has released air quality data for October 6, predicting a relatively improved air quality in Lahore due to possible light rainfall.

According to the data, Lahore’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) for the day is expected to remain around **115**, categorized as “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” Light rain and stronger winds are expected to help disperse pollutants and improve air conditions throughout the day.

At midnight, the AQI was recorded at **115** with a temperature of **25°C** and wind speed of **15 km/h**. By **5 a.m.**, air quality improved to **105**, with temperatures dropping to **21°C** and winds increasing to **24 km/h**. At **7 a.m.**, the AQI rose slightly to **115** with a temperature of **20°C**.

By **11 a.m.**, the AQI reached **120**, with wind speeds at **30 km/h**. Around **1 p.m.**, conditions are expected to improve again, with the AQI decreasing to **100** and wind speeds remaining steady at **28 km/h**. In the evening, the AQI may rise slightly — around **110** at **6 p.m.**, **125** at **9 p.m.**, and **115** by **11 p.m.**

Officials from the Smog Monitoring Center urged citizens not to burn waste and to ensure regular vehicle inspections to reduce emissions.

The center noted that this marks the **first time in history** a provincial-level system has been activated to monitor and forecast smog in real time. Authorities also emphasized that expanding green spaces and planting more trees will play a crucial role in combating air pollution and improving environmental health.
