Electricity Becomes Costlier Nationwide, Including K-Electric Consumers

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase in electricity prices for consumers across the country, including K-Electric users, for one month under the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for August.

According to NEPRA’s statement, a public hearing was held at the regulator’s headquarters under the chairmanship of NEPRA Chairman, where officials from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G), representatives of the business community, the Ministry of Energy, journalists, and citizens participated.

The CPPA-G had requested an increase of Rs 0.19 per unit in FCA, applicable only for one month. The hike will apply to all consumers of distribution companies (DISCOs), including K-Electric, except lifeline users, prepaid consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations.

NEPRA clarified that it has heard all stakeholders and will issue a detailed decision after further scrutiny of the data.

In August, DISCOs were supplied with 102.94 billion units of electricity. The average generation cost stood at Rs 7.50 per unit compared to Rs 7.31 per unit earlier. Electricity produced from local coal cost Rs 12.01 per unit, imported coal Rs 14.07, furnace oil Rs 33, gas Rs 13.43, LNG Rs 21.73, Iranian imports Rs 41, and bagasse Rs 9.87 per unit.
