Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Pact a Major Development but Risks Have Increased, Says PTI Leader Asad Umar

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former finance minister Asad Umar has said that while the recently signed agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is a significant achievement, it also brings new risks for the country.

Speaking to the media outside an anti-terrorism court, Umar said the pact is both timely and strategically important for the region. “This is indeed a major success, but it also increases the threats facing Pakistan,” he cautioned.

Highlighting regional tensions, Umar pointed out that Israel has carried out attacks not only in Gaza but also in Qatar, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi receiving birthday greetings from the Israeli premier signals dangerous joint ambitions of India and Israel. He stressed that political stability in Pakistan is essential under such circumstances.

“While the world recognizes Pakistan’s military strength, the question is about the performance of the current leadership, which is ruling without a public mandate and failing to provide relief to the people,” he said.

The PTI leader added that the ongoing political crisis cannot be resolved without dialogue with Pakistan’s largest political party, PTI, and its founder. He further noted that farmers, already struggling with fertilizer, seed, and low wheat prices, have now been devastated by floods. “Real measures to ease public suffering can only come through genuine political stability,” he emphasized.
