Maulana Fazlur Rehman Congratulates Mahmood Khan Achakzai on Appointment as Opposition Leader
Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday telephoned Mahmood Khan Achakzai to congratulate him on his nomination as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly.
According to JUI spokesperson Aslam Ghauri, Maulana Fazlur Rehman extended his best wishes to Mahmood Khan Achakzai and expressed hope that he would play an effective role in upholding the supremacy of the Constitution.
The spokesperson added that Achakzai’s vast political experience would help restore the dignity and stature of democracy and Parliament. He also criticized the fact that the National Assembly had been functioning without a formally appointed opposition leader until now.
It is pertinent to note that the National Assembly Secretariat issued an official notification on January 16, 2026, appointing Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the Opposition Leader.
