U.S. Policy of Relying on India Over Pakistan is a Strategic Failure: Foreign Affairs Magazine

Islamabad: Renowned American publication *Foreign Affairs* has criticized the U.S. policy of favoring India over Pakistan, calling it a strategic misstep that could weaken Washington’s position in the region.

According to the magazine, India has never proven to be a reliable partner for the United States and has consistently failed to meet American expectations. In contrast, Pakistan has demonstrated greater reliability and has taken commendable steps to reduce tensions with India and combat terrorism—efforts that were acknowledged and appreciated by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The report emphasizes that economic and energy agreements between the U.S. and Pakistan have yielded mutual benefits. It also highlights the potential of American investments in Pakistan’s natural resources, including the Reko Diq project, to stabilize the broader region.

*Foreign Affairs* warns that the U.S. policy of focusing solely on India could alienate Pakistan and increase the risk of conflict in South Asia. It argues that Pakistan’s national security strategy promotes balanced relations with both the U.S. and China, and historically, Pakistan has acted as a bridge between Washington and Beijing.

The magazine concludes that a more inclusive regional approach—one that includes trusting and investing in Pakistan—is essential for long-term peace and U.S. influence in the region.
