Bilawal Bhutto Calls for Agricultural Emergency, Supports Construction of New Dams

Sukkur: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged the federal government to declare a nationwide agricultural emergency and extend immediate assistance to flood-affected farmers.
Speaking to the media in Sukkur, Bilawal said that devastating floods have further worsened the already fragile condition of Pakistan’s agriculture sector, leaving farmers in dire need of support. “We must compensate for the destruction caused to the agricultural sector. Farmers need urgent relief,” he stressed.
He added that the PPP supports the construction of new dams, while controversies only arise around projects lacking political consensus. “Those who fail to achieve political consensus raise objections over controversial dams,” he remarked.
Bilawal also called on the federal government to provide flood relief through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). “I have already requested the Prime Minister to ensure immediate assistance through BISP in the affected districts. Unfortunately, delays are still happening,” he said, adding that Sindh was fully prepared to tackle the floods, and people should cooperate with the administration during evacuations.
The PPP chairman emphasized that Punjab has the capacity to deal with the flood situation but insisted that all provinces should receive federal support without delay.
