Interior Minister Orders Removal of Illegal Citizens from Database, Plans to End NADRA Rental Offices

Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to immediately remove individuals who have illegally obtained Pakistani citizenship from the national database, while also announcing key reforms in the functioning of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

During a visit to NADRA headquarters, the minister was briefed by the chairman on the organization’s performance, ongoing projects, and improvements in public services. Naqvi appreciated the institution’s progress over the past two years and called for further modernization.

He instructed that NADRA’s state-of-the-art offices should no longer operate in rented buildings and instead be established on government-owned land. A comprehensive master plan for this transition has been sought.

Officials informed the meeting that NADRA has already canceled identity cards of millions of deceased individuals. To improve service delivery, a strict 30-day timeline has been set for resolving citizen complaints related to identity cards.

In collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), authorities have also initiated the blocking of mobile SIMs registered in the names of deceased الأشخاص.

The briefing further highlighted the need for enhanced inter-agency coordination to improve biometric verification systems, particularly facial recognition technology. The interior minister assured full cooperation at the ministerial level to strengthen these efforts.
