Sindh CM Assures Full Preparedness for Rains and Floods Across the Province

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that the provincial government is fully prepared to deal with both heavy rains and possible flooding across various districts, including Karachi.
Speaking at a press conference after visiting the Flood Monitoring Cell, the chief minister said that all departments and ministers are active and monitoring the situation. He confirmed that he had received updates from the Sukkur and Larkana commissioners, as well as the irrigation minister and secretary.
Sharing the latest figures, Shah said that as of 3 PM, water inflow at Panjnad Barrage had reached 600,000 cusecs, and it could rise to 700,000 cusecs within 24 hours. He noted that the flow has intensified as the water level dropped upstream. He further added that Taunsa is currently receiving 217,000 cusecs, and preparations are being made to handle a potential 800,000 cusec flow. The flood peak is expected to reach Guddu Barrage on September 9.
The CM said evacuations are underway from villages along the flood path, with many residents moving voluntarily while the government continues awareness efforts. “Within the next 48 hours, evacuations will be completed,” he assured. Relief camps, healthcare facilities, and cattle enclosures with geo-tagging have been set up to support affected communities.
Shah also noted that no major rainfall is expected in the Koh-e-Suleman range upstream of Guddu, but forecasts indicate rain in Tharparkar, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Jamshoro, and Dadu. “Karachi has already received above-normal rainfall this year, but preparations are complete,” he added.
He said provincial ministers, including Nasir Shah, Mukesh Chawla, Jam Khan Shoro, Mohammad Ali Malkani, and Riaz Shah, along with other elected representatives, are present in their constituencies to oversee relief operations.
