Supreme Court Dismisses Brother’s Appeal Against Sister’s Inheritance Share

Islamabad, — The Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed a brother’s appeal challenging his sister’s rightful share in inheritance, emphasizing that the Quran explicitly grants women their due share, which cannot be denied.
A two-member bench led by Justice Hasan Rizvi heard the case. During the proceedings, Justice Naeem Afghan remarked that the brother was willing to take services from his sisters but unwilling to give them their rightful share of the property, noting, “The sisters cook meals and clean the house.”
Justice Hasan Rizvi stated firmly, “The Quran clearly defines the share of a sister in inheritance. How can anyone deny what has been ordained in the Quran?” He also noted that the property distribution document lacked the sister’s signature, casting doubt on its legitimacy.
The brother’s lawyer, Shahab, argued that his client had given a share to his sister, but she claimed it was less than what she was entitled to.
Rejecting the brother’s appeal, the court upheld the sister’s right to a fair share, reinforcing the Quranic and legal principles of inheritance.
