FIA Develops AI-Based App to Ease Immigration and Curb Human Smuggling

Islamabad: In a significant move to modernize immigration processes and combat human smuggling, Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based application. The pilot phase of the project will be launched at Islamabad International Airport.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the FIA Headquarters in Islamabad, where he chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on decisions made in previous sessions regarding FIA’s modernization.
During the briefing, the minister was informed about the new AI-based app designed to simplify immigration procedures and effectively counter human smuggling. Mohsin Naqvi praised the initiative, calling it a much-needed step in the right direction.
He stated that the new system would not only help in curbing human trafficking but also relieve passengers from long queues at airports. The minister also directed immediate allocation of required funds to improve the agency’s IT infrastructure.
Additionally, Mohsin Naqvi ordered the urgent upgrade of the FIA Headquarters building and directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to officially hand over the newly allotted land for the FIA Academy.
In light of staff shortages, the minister also instructed that recruitment for all approved vacant posts be initiated without delay. He emphasized that all necessary resources will be provided, but performance must follow.
During the session, FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar briefed the minister, stating that amendments to the FIA Act have been completed, and the agency’s digital transformation is being prioritized. He noted that FIA has already transitioned to the e-office system and will now issue all official notices with QR codes.
All Additional Director Generals and Directors of the FIA attended the meeting, while Zonal Directors participated online.
