Karachi: Powerful Explosion in Firecracker Warehouse Injures 34, CCTV Footage Emerges

Karachi: A massive explosion occurred in a firecracker warehouse located on M.A. Jinnah Road in the Saddar area of Karachi, injuring at least 34 people and causing a significant fire. The blast also damaged nearby shops and buildings.
According to reports, the explosion triggered a large fire, and thick black smoke was visible from a distance. A rickshaw parked nearby was also affected by the fire. Windows of multiple buildings shattered due to the intensity of the blast, injuring several people with flying glass shards.
Rescue operations were immediately launched. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) dispatched five fire tenders, one snorkel, and a water bowser to the scene. Police, Rangers, and Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos reached the site to assist in the relief efforts. People trapped on rooftops were safely evacuated by rescue teams.
SSP South confirmed that the explosion originated from the firecracker warehouse, which then caught fire. The blast caused heavy damage to surrounding structures.
The injured, including the owner of the firecracker warehouse, were shifted to Jinnah and Civil hospitals for medical treatment. Rescue authorities confirmed that 34 people sustained injuries.
CCTV footage from the warehouse captured the moment of the explosion, showing flames erupting into the air and ensuing chaos in the surrounding area.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed authorities to control the fire swiftly and ensure there is no loss of life. He instructed the Karachi Commissioner to provide immediate medical aid to the injured and to submit a detailed report after the fire is brought under control.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the manufacturing or storage of hazardous materials like firecrackers should not be allowed within populated city areas.
