Salim Bukhari Claims the Establishment May Demand Removal of Khawaja Asif from Defense Ministry
LAHORE: Senior journalist Salim Bukhari has claimed that the establishment may demand the removal of Khawaja Asif from the position of Defense Minister. While the matter is currently under wraps, Bukhari suggested that it is likely to become public in the coming days.
Speaking in a TV program, Bukhari drew parallels with the earlier friction between the establishment and former Prime Minister Imran Khan over the removal of Usman Buzdar. He stated that a similar tension seems to be building regarding Khawaja Asif’s position. He mentioned that, just as there was a demand for Buzdar’s removal, a similar demand might now be emerging for Asif.
Bukhari further noted that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the current coalition government cannot afford to challenge the establishment at this moment. If they do, they should be prepared to face the consequences, he added, emphasizing that there seems to be some underlying issue.
