High-Level Meeting Held to Address Growing Water Crisis in Gwadar

Gwadar:A high-level meeting chaired by **Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti**, was convened today to address the escalating water crisis in Gwadar. During the meeting, an **Emergency Coordination Committee** was formed to resolve the water issue in the city on an urgent basis.
The committee will be led by **Chairman Gwadar Port Authority, Noorul Haq Baloch**, and its members include **Director General of GDA (Gwadar Development Authority) Maoin-ur-Rehman Khan**, **Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar Hamood-ur-Rehman**, **Executive Public Health Momin Ali**, and representatives from the **Irrigation Department** and **KESCO**.
The committee has already begun its work, with the first meeting held today at the GDA office. During the session, crucial discussions took place on resolving the water shortage in Gwadar, including immediate actions to **operationalize the Shadi Kor Dam**, activate the **Gwadar Port’s desalination plant** to its full capacity, and explore other alternative water sources.

1. **Water Supply to Southern Gwadar**:
* A **new 200,000-gallon water storage tank** at **Koh Bin Ward**, built by the GDA, will be activated immediately to supply water to the **southern parts of the city**, especially the **Mala Band area**. Work on this will begin in the next few days.
2. **Activation of New Water Storage Tank**:
* The committee inspected the **new 200,000-gallon capacity water storage tank** in **Koh Bin** and decided to make it operational immediately. Water from the **Gwadar Port Desalination Plant**, which can provide up to **600,000 gallons of water per day**, will be supplied to the tank and distributed to the residents via the GDA’s new pipeline system.
3. **Domestic Connections**:
* Plans to install **household water connections** will begin shortly to ensure that residents have easy access to water as soon as possible.
4. **Enhancing Borewell Capacity**:
* The capacity of the borewell system in **Tehsil Sentar** will be increased, and **two additional tube wells** will be installed. These new tube wells will be connected to **Gawani and other nearby areas** to boost the city’s water supply.
5. **Improving Water Distribution System**:
* The meeting emphasized the need to **modernize and streamline** the water distribution system in the city. Efforts will be made to ensure that the water supply system is transparent, efficient, and sustainable.
6. **Sodium-Based Water Supply**:
* The committee also focused on improving the **sodium-based water supply system** to make it more effective for Gwadar’s needs.
