Pakistan Refuses to Participate in Hockey Asia Cup, Claims Security Concerns

New Delhi – A senior official from Hockey India has claimed that Pakistan has decided not to participate in the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India. The official, speaking to an Indian newspaper, confirmed that the Pakistan Hockey Team will not be taking part in the tournament.
According to the Hockey India official, while the Indian government was willing to issue visas to the Pakistani team, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) declined the offer, citing security concerns as the main reason for their withdrawal from the event.
The Asia Cup is set to be held in Rajgir, India, from August 29 to September 7, and the Pakistan Hockey Federation reportedly informed the Asian Hockey Federation in writing on Wednesday that, due to security reasons, they will not be participating in the tournament.
In response to Pakistan’s withdrawal, Hockey India has extended an invitation to Bangladesh to take part in the tournament.
Meanwhile, there are also uncertainties surrounding the participation of Pakistan’s junior hockey team in the Junior Hockey World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India in November and December. The decision regarding their participation in this tournament remains unclear at this time.
This development comes amidst ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, which have also affected bilateral sporting engagements in recent years.
