Undercover Police Officers Infiltrated PTI’s ‘Secret’ Meetings, Reveal Court Testimonies

Islamabad: In a significant development, it has been revealed that undercover police officers posed as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers to attend several of the party’s “secret meetings,” where alleged planning for the violent events of May 9, 2023, took place.
Over the past few weeks, Pakistan’s anti-terrorism courts have handed down prison sentences to numerous PTI leaders, parliamentarians, and workers for their involvement in the May 9 incidents, which included arson, attacks on government and military installations, and other violent actions. The state maintains that the events were not spontaneous public outrage, but rather part of a well-orchestrated conspiracy against the country.
Evidence presented by the prosecution in various anti-terrorism court cases in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sargodha suggests deliberate planning behind the violence. Uniform 10-year sentences were issued to several high-profile PTI figures, with testimonies from Lahore police officers Husam Afzal and Muhammad Khalid playing a key role in the verdicts. Additionally, the testimony of former Rawalpindi police Special Branch Inspector Ismat Kamal was presented in the Faisalabad and Sargodha cases.
According to the prosecution, these officers testified that they infiltrated PTI’s inner circles by pretending to be party workers and attended multiple covert meetings where the alleged plans were discussed. Inspector Ismat Kamal’s testimony, referenced in the Sargodha and Faisalabad verdicts, mentioned receiving a tip-off that led him to attend a secret meeting at a hotel near Chakri on the motorway on May 4. It was during this gathering that planning for the May 9 events reportedly took place.
These testimonies have been pivotal in reinforcing the government’s stance that the May 9 incidents were part of a deliberate, coordinated plot involving PTI leadership, rather than a spontaneous eruption of public anger.
