PTI Issues Senate Ticket to Mishal Yousafzai, Directs Other Candidates to Withdraw

Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a party ticket to Mishal Yousafzai for the Senate by-election on the women’s seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A formal notification in this regard was issued by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, stating that the decision was made on the instructions of PTI founder.
The party has directed other female candidates for the seat, including Sajida Begum, Momena Basit, Samira Shams, and Sameena Khalid, to withdraw their nominations by today. The Senate by-election for this seat will be held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 31.
In a related development, the Election Commission of Pakistan has disqualified Abdul Latif Chitrali, the Member of National Assembly from NA-1 Chitral, after he was convicted in the incidents of May 9. Under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution, he has been declared ineligible. The Election Commission has also declared the NA-1 Chitral seat vacant.
Furthermore, the Election Commission has issued the schedule for by-elections in three constituencies. Polling for the vacant Senate seat of Ijaz Chaudhry, as well as for PP-87 Mianwali (Ahmad Khan Bhachar) and NA-66 Wazirabad (Ahmad Chatha), will be held on September 18.
It is worth noting that the Anti-Terrorism Court had sentenced Ijaz Chaudhry to 10 years in prison, which led to his disqualification. Similarly, Ahmad Khan Bhachar and Ahmad Chatha have also been convicted by the court.
According to the Election Commission, candidates for these constituencies must submit their nomination papers by August 11, with polling set for September 18.
