Donkey Meat Scandal in Islamabad: Over 1,000 Kg Seized, 40 Live Animals Recovered

Islamabad: In a shocking development, Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has uncovered a major operation involving the illegal supply of donkey meat in the federal capital. Director of the IFA, Irfan Memon, has revealed important details following a successful raid.
According to Memon, the authority received intelligence about donkey meat being distributed in the city a week prior to the operation. In response, IFA teams launched a covert surveillance mission to catch the culprits red-handed.
During the raid, officials seized over 1,000 kilograms of butchered meat along with 40 live donkeys. A foreign butcher and a watchman were also arrested on the spot.
Memon confirmed that the illegal activity had been ongoing for at least two weeks. However, the exact number of donkeys slaughtered and the distribution network for the meat—especially where it may have been supplied—are still under investigation.
Preliminary reports suggest some of the meat may have been sold to foreign nationals, and possibly even transported outside of Islamabad, but no concrete evidence has yet been confirmed.
The Director emphasized that all restaurants in Islamabad undergo surprise inspections, and no similar reports of donkey meat had surfaced in the past two years. He added that IFA teams conduct late-night surprise visits to ensure food safety standards are upheld.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating the matter from multiple angles, and authorities have pledged to bring all those involved to justice.
