Pakistan’s Leading Human Rights Body HRCP Faces Unprecedented Pressure and Restrictions: Official Statement Released

Islamabad: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), the country’s foremost human rights watchdog, has revealed that it has been facing arbitrary, illegal, and unjustified actions in recent months, severely hindering its ability to operate effectively.
In a strongly worded statement, the HRCP said:
“Over the past few months, HRCP has been subjected to a series of arbitrary, illegal, and unjustified measures that have hampered its ability to function effectively. The intensity of pressure over the past two and a half years is unlike anything the organisation has experienced in its decades-long history.”
The Commission warned that this situation poses a serious threat not only to human rights in Pakistan but also to civil liberties more broadly.
According to a report by journalist Benazir Shah, the increasing pressure on HRCP is part of a wider trend of state interference and silencing of independent voices.
HRCP has urged the government to take immediate notice of the situation and ensure that the Commission is allowed to work freely within its constitutional mandate.
