Mina Majid Condemns Honor Killings in Balochistan, Calls for Action

Quetta, Pakistan:Mina Majid, a vocal advocate for women’s rights in Balochistan, condemned the ongoing wave of honor killings in the province, stating that such barbaric acts are a direct result of outdated traditions that are incompatible with both religious principles and the country’s constitution. Addressing the provincial assembly, Majid expressed deep concern over the rising violence against women in the region.

“An inhumane tragedy is unfolding in Balochistan, where women are being murdered in the name of honor due to our regressive traditions. These self-imposed laws go against the teachings of our religion and the constitution of Pakistan,” Majid asserted. She also pointed out the stark contrast between the progress made by women worldwide and the plight of Balochistani women, who continue to face violence under the pretext of preserving family honor.

Asserting her stance, Majid added, “While women around the world are reaching new heights, including reaching the moon, women in Balochistan are being killed in the name of honor.” She made it clear that the government cannot turn a blind eye to such atrocities, and it is time to take concrete actions against the perpetrators.

In her speech, Majid praised the government for taking steps toward accountability, including the arrest of those involved in these heinous acts. “We will not tolerate such injustice, and those responsible will not be forgiven in our courts,” she declared, reinforcing her commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.

Majid concluded by emphasizing that Balochistan’s women also have the right to make choices about their own lives. “Every woman has the right to decide for herself,” she affirmed, calling for the empowerment and protection of women in the province.
