Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Raisani Demands Government’s Guarantee for Personal Security Following Ban on Private Security

Quetta, Balochistan:Senior politician and former Senator, Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Raisani, has called on the provincial government to provide a clear guarantee for the security of political figures and citizens following the ban on private security services in Quetta. In a letter addressed to the SSP Operations Quetta, Mohammad Baloch, Raisani emphasized that the government must ensure the safety of individuals whose lives may be at risk, and be held accountable if any untoward incidents occur.

The letter, which was also sent to the Governor of Balochistan, the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, the Chief Secretary, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Interior, the Commissioner of Quetta Division, the IG Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Quetta, and the DIG Police Quetta, raised concerns over the recent restrictions placed on private security in the region.

Raisani criticized a recent podcast by the SSP Operations, in which he stated that legitimate political leaders should not rely on armed security. He pointed out that the SSP did not mention the real threats posed by smugglers, land grabbers, and criminal elements, and questioned whether this was a personal stance or a government policy to marginalize the legitimate political leadership of Balochistan.

He further highlighted that despite the ban on private security, many individuals with no political or social identity were being provided state security, even extending to businesses such as a Chinese hotel. Raisani expressed concerns that the government was attempting to foster fake leadership in the province, while simultaneously undermining the genuine leadership by blocking their access to adequate security.

The former senator also expressed frustration with the state of security in the province, pointing out that major national highways are often closed, especially at night, and that Quetta, despite being the provincial capital, has a minimal state presence beyond a 20-kilometer radius. He questioned whether the government had indeed improved the situation, or if the intention was to prevent those with genuine security threats from protecting themselves.

Raisani, whose family has directly suffered from terrorism, requested that the government take responsibility for providing security, stating that they would no longer carry arms out of choice, but only due to the circumstances. He affirmed that the political identity and historical role of the people of Balochistan were not defined by armed security, but by their rightful place in the province’s history and society.

Concluding his letter, Raisani demanded that the government guarantee the safety of political leaders and citizens, and that they would be held accountable for any future incidents.
