Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Opposition Claims Strong Position Ahead of Senate Elections, PTI Facing Internal Dissent

Opposition Leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Dr. Ibadullah, has claimed that the upcoming Senate elections will present a significant challenge to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as the united opposition is prepared to secure at least 50% of the seats.
Speaking exclusively to *Aaj News*, Dr. Ibadullah revealed that several PTI lawmakers are deeply dissatisfied with their party’s leadership and are secretly in contact with opposition members. “Many of them come to us and say, ‘Save us from this torment,’” he stated, hinting at growing cracks within PTI’s ranks.
Dismissing speculation about any covert political deals or financial bargaining, Dr. Ibadullah called such claims “baseless rumors” spread by elements trying to inflate their political worth.
### Opposition Finalizes Strategy for 5 Key Senate Seats
The united opposition has finalized its strategy for the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aiming to win five key seats: three general, one technocrat, and one reserved for women. The alliance includes Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
According to party sources, Ishtiaq Amir Muqam (PML-N), Maulana Talha Mahmood, and Maulana Ata-ul-Haq Dervesh (JUI-F) are set to contest the general seats, with vote-sharing formulas already agreed upon to maximize their chances.
For the technocrat seat, JUI-F candidate Dilawar Khan has received unanimous support from the alliance, while PPP’s Rubina Khalid is the agreed nominee for the women’s reserved seat.
This carefully crafted strategy is designed to challenge PTI’s numerical strength in the provincial assembly and ensure a more balanced representation in the upper house.
### PTI Holds High-Level Consultations on Reserved Seat Oath-Taking
Meanwhile, political tension continues to mount as PTI leadership deliberates on the issue of oath-taking for newly elected members on reserved seats in the provincial assembly. Sources suggest that a high-level “huddle” of senior PTI leaders is expected soon, with plans to convene an assembly session in the next two days.
The oath-taking is considered critical for PTI to maintain its numerical majority in the assembly—a key factor in determining Senate election outcomes.
As the political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa grows increasingly dynamic, analysts predict more unexpected developments ahead of the Senate polls. The opposition’s claims and PTI’s internal discord have added a layer of intrigue to an already heated political atmosphere.
