Gallup Survey Reveals Concerns Over Corruption and Lack of Basic Amenities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar, Pakistan:A recent survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan has highlighted major concerns among the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding corruption, lack of basic public services, and the distribution of government jobs. According to the findings, 73% of respondents believe that government jobs in the province are not awarded on merit, but rather on personal connections.
The survey, which aims to gauge public opinion, also revealed alarming statistics regarding the state’s infrastructure and basic amenities. Around 52% of respondents stated that development funds in the province have been misused due to corruption. In terms of basic services, only 63% of the population has access to healthcare, 66% lacks access to gas, and 49% experience frequent electricity shortages or poor supply.
Additionally, the survey highlighted a stark lack of recreational facilities for the youth, with 77% of young people reporting a lack of parks and 81% unable to access libraries.
The report also pointed out that, while the province’s road infrastructure and transport system showed improvement during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s 13-year rule, the pace of development slowed significantly after 2024. Even among PTI’s own voters, 49% claimed that there was no substantial progress in their areas.
Gallup’s survey underscores the growing frustration in the province as citizens express dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs, highlighting systemic inefficiencies and widespread corruption that continue to hamper progress. The survey findings call for urgent reform to restore public trust and improve the delivery of essential services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
