YouTube to Phase Out Popular ‘Trending’ Page and Introduce New Category-Specific Charts

YouTube has announced the discontinuation of its long-standing and popular “Trending” page feature, which has been a staple of the platform for years. The company revealed that instead of the traditional “Trending” page, specific category charts will now showcase popular content in a more structured manner.
According to YouTube, the decision was made to improve the discovery of trending content, offering a more refined browsing experience for users. Now, instead of a single “Trending” page, trending videos will be displayed in separate categories such as trending music videos, top artists, and trending movie trailers on YouTube Charts.
This change comes as YouTube believes that when the “Trending” page was first introduced in 2015, it was easy to showcase viral videos in one location. However, as trends have evolved, the platform now features a diverse range of content, making it more complex to display everything under one umbrella.
The new YouTube Charts will not only present popular content but also suggest videos that YouTube believes users will enjoy, based on their viewing patterns. The company has also stated that, in the near future, additional categories will be added to the charts, further diversifying how trending content is presented.
In a blog post, YouTube explained that the decision stems from the growing number of micro-trends, which has led to a broader and more varied range of videos trending at any given time. The company also acknowledged that fewer people are visiting the “Trending” tab, as users now find their favorite content spread across multiple places on the platform.
Furthermore, YouTube has revealed that algorithms and various tools will be used to determine which content is gaining traction and popularity among viewers, ensuring that the charts reflect what users are genuinely engaging with.
The update is expected to be rolled out over the next few weeks. With these changes, YouTube aims to offer a more tailored experience to users while helping them discover trending content that aligns with their interests.
