PM Shehbaz Sharif Says Pakistan Played Responsible Role in Iran–US Ceasefire

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the flames of conflict between United States and Iran have subsided, crediting Pakistan for playing a responsible and effective diplomatic role in achieving the ceasefire.

Speaking during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister received applause from cabinet members, who praised his leadership. He said global media outlets had acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace and reducing tensions.

Sharif highlighted what he described as unprecedented coordination between civilian and military leadership, saying such harmony had not been witnessed in the past four decades. He termed the ceasefire a major diplomatic success and expressed gratitude to God for the achievement.

Referring to international developments, the prime minister noted that former US President Donald Trump had announced tariffs on countries providing military assistance to Iran, including a 50 percent tariff on defense-related exports to the United States.

He emphasized that Pakistan acted with responsibility and dignity, expressing hope that the temporary ceasefire would lead to a permanent end to hostilities. He also appreciated the efforts of Army Chief Asim Munir, stating that he worked tirelessly during the crisis.

The prime minister thanked the leadership of both Iran and the United States for accepting Pakistan’s mediation efforts. He also acknowledged the support of several friendly nations, including China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Turkey, Indonesia, Egypt, Azerbaijan, and United Arab Emirates for their cooperation in peace efforts.

Sharif also condemned the recent attack on a petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the kingdom. He praised Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and his team for their tireless diplomatic work.

Concluding his remarks, the prime minister said that Pakistan’s global standing had improved significantly, adding that the recognition earned was a collective achievement of the entire nation.
