New Monsoon Spell Enters Pakistan, Heavy Rains Expected Across Many Regions

Islamabad: A new spell of the monsoon has entered Pakistan, bringing with it the possibility of heavy rainfall across several regions, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The latest monsoon system has reached Punjab, raising the likelihood of intense rainfall in various districts including the provincial capital, Lahore. After a day of humid and dry weather, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected late at night. The temperature in Lahore is forecast to range between a minimum of 30°C and a maximum of 37°C.
The PMD has warned that both light and heavy showers are expected across different parts of Punjab. The rain-bearing monsoon system re-entered the country today, likely continuing the trend of strong winds and further downpours.
In response, citizens have expressed concern over the slow pace of development projects in Lahore. Many fear that incomplete infrastructure could worsen the situation during the monsoon rains.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for Ashura (10th of Muharram), predicting heavy rainfall in several districts including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Faisalabad.
Experts believe the current monsoon spell will persist until July 10, which may lead to rising water levels in rivers and streams.
Rescue 1122 has been placed on high alert, and the Disaster Response Force has been instructed to remain fully prepared with all necessary equipment. Citizens are urged to take precautionary measures and to contact the PDMA Punjab helpline at 1129 in case of emergencies.
