Trump Proposes Limited-Term Visas for Foreign Students

Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has once again proposed the idea of issuing limited-term visas for foreign students. This proposal, initially presented during his first presidential term in 2020, has resurfaced as part of a tougher immigration stance during his second term.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has submitted the proposal to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review. Under the proposed plan, foreign students would be granted visas with a limited duration, and once that period expires, they would not be allowed to remain in the US.
Currently, international students with F-1 visas and those holding J-1 cultural exchange visas are permitted to stay in the US until they complete their education and training sessions. If Trump’s new proposal is approved, foreign students would be required to apply for a visa extension with the relevant authorities before their limited-term visas expire in order to continue residing in the US.
