Imprisoned Senior Leaders of PTI, Including Shah Mehmood, Advise Party Leadership to Initiate Talks with Government

Islamabad: Senior imprisoned leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, have urged the party leadership to open negotiations with the government. In an open letter, these leaders suggested that dialogue is the only way to resolve the country’s current political crisis and emphasized the need for talks at all levels—political and constitutional.
The letter was signed by PTI’s Senior Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former ministers Mehmood ur Rashid, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfraz Cheema. They recommended that negotiations with the government be conditioned upon a meeting with PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan.
The letter stated that the only solution to the country’s worst-ever crisis is through negotiations, stressing the importance of talks at both political and constitutional levels.
Furthermore, the leaders suggested that these negotiations should begin on a political level, with the inclusion of imprisoned PTI leaders from Lahore. They also called for the establishment of a negotiation committee and for arrangements to be made for accessing Imran Khan to ensure broader consultation within the leadership. The leaders emphasized the need to continue the process of meetings to work toward a resolution.
This move highlights the internal divide and the growing recognition within PTI that dialogue with the government might be necessary to address the current national crisis.
