Senior Lawyers and Politicians in Balochistan Decide to Challenge Mines and Minerals Act in High Court

Quetta, Balochistan:A consultative meeting of senior lawyers, chaired by former Senator Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani, took place on Sunday at the Sarawan House. The meeting reviewed the legal and constitutional aspects of the Mines and Minerals Act and decided to challenge the law in the Balochistan High Court in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by prominent legal figures including Senior Advocate Riyaz Ahmed, Advocate Tahir Haidari, Advocate Sharif, a member of the provincial committee of the National Democratic Movement (NDM), Advocate Inayatullah Shah, National Party’s Provincial General Secretary Chingez Hai Baloch, Advocate Abdul Jalil Baloch, Senior Lawyers Mian Badr Munir and Mian Nadir Munir, Former Federal Minister Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd, and Mir Abdullah Raisani.

The participants expressed concerns over the Mines and Minerals Act, arguing that it deprives the people of Balochistan of their rights. The law is seen as an attempt to strip the provincial people of their ownership and control over local resources, handing them over to the federal government and external investors. The meeting emphasized the need for all political parties, lawyers, and trade associations to unite and challenge the Act in court and present positive suggestions for its review.

Speaking at the meeting, Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani termed the Mines and Minerals Act 2025 as a direct attack on the rights of the people of Balochistan. He expressed strong opposition to the law, stating, “This Act is an assault on the resources of Balochistan, and we will challenge it at every forum.” He further emphasized that, despite decades of struggle, the people of Balochistan had not gained control over their resources. Instead, those resources were now being handed back to the federal government and private capitalists.

Raisani also called on political parties in Balochistan to come together and collectively challenge the law, stressing that only through unity can the people of the province achieve their rights. He urged trade unions, lawyers, and business organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce and the Mines Owners Association, to step forward and defend Balochistan’s resources.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to fight for the rights of the people of Balochistan and to seek justice through legal means.
