Fazlur Rehman Urges Pakistan to Stand Firmly with Iran and Gaza, Warns of Impending Threats

Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly urged the Pakistani government to stand openly and firmly with Iran and Gaza, warning that Pakistan could be the next target following attacks on Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and now Iran.
While addressing the National Assembly, Fazlur Rehman expressed concern over the ongoing Middle East crisis and said that recent meetings between U.S. officials and military leaders might have focused on preventing war between India, Pakistan, Iran, and Israel, but likely ignored the Israeli aggression in Palestine. “Unarmed Muslims, women, and children are being killed, and the world remains indifferent,” he said.
Fazlur Rehman criticized the global community and Islamic organizations, stating, “International bodies like the UN Security Council and the OIC have lost their relevance. Over 60,000 Palestinians have been martyred, and still, Zionist aggression knows no bounds. In just two days, 1,500 people have been killed, yet there is no international response.”
He further emphasized that Pakistan, as a nuclear and powerful Muslim country, should be leading the Muslim world but is instead in a defensive position. “If Iran retaliates against Israel, it is asked to hold back. If Pakistan responds to India, it is pressured to stop. But Israel faces no such restrictions,” he added.
Fazlur Rehman also highlighted the dangers facing Pakistan, stating that the country’s nuclear program is under threat and that enemies seek to isolate and weaken Pakistan. He noted a lack of warmth from former allies and increased regional instability.
Speaking on domestic issues, he strongly opposed the underage marriage bill, claiming it goes against the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah and promotes liberal ideologies over Islamic values. “We are making legal marriages difficult and promoting immorality,” he said, calling for an open debate on the matter.
On economic matters, he criticized the government’s budget, calling it an IMF-dictated document with no input from national stakeholders. He accused the government of silencing dissenting voices and lacking the capacity to create an independent budget.
Fazlur Rehman concluded by saying that Pakistan needs a revolution, not traditional politics. “The nation must be awakened and empowered to solve its own problems. Justice and fairness will strengthen the economy more than force ever could,” he said.
