Traffic Police Files Case Against Lawyers Over Motorcycle Stopping Incident in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police of Rawalpindi has registered a case against lawyers under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and other charges, including threats, following an incident where the police stopped a motorcyclist for violating traffic rules.
The incident occurred on Saturday at Haider Road, where the motorcyclist was stopped for not wearing a helmet and lacking a front number plate. The motorcyclist, identified as Malik Tajammul, was issued a challan ticket, and his motorcycle was impounded for lacking the necessary documents.
However, the situation escalated when Malik Tajammul introduced himself as a lawyer and called 15 other lawyers to the scene, while also allegedly issuing threats of dire consequences. Though the on-site police officers managed to diffuse the situation, the matter took a new turn when Advocate Chaudhry Rizwan Elahi shared a viral video on Facebook, aiming to tarnish the reputation of the police. The video was reportedly posted to provoke the public and incite anger against the police force.
According to the police, the viral video was intended to damage the honor and dignity of the police department, with the intention of stirring up public sentiment against law enforcement. The FIR (First Information Report) details that the lawyers involved obstructed law enforcement duties, threatened police personnel, and committed offenses in the course of their actions.
The police have stated that an investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the lawyers involved have strongly condemned the case, calling it fabricated and a smear against their profession.
