U.S. Nominee for South and Central Asia, Pal Kapur, Vows to Enhance Security Cooperation with Pakistan if Confirmed

Washington — Pal Kapur, the U.S. nominee for Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, has stated his intent to enhance security cooperation with Pakistan if confirmed by the Senate. During his testimony before the Senate Committee, the Indian-American diplomat emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties in trade and investment as well.
Kapur acknowledged that South Asia narrowly avoided a major conflict recently and highlighted the need for continued diplomatic engagement in the region. “If confirmed, I will work to advance U.S. interests in both India and Pakistan,” he stated.
The nomination of Pal Kapur comes from former President Donald Trump, and he is expected to succeed Donald Lu, who resigned from the position. His confirmation is pending Senate approval.
Observers view Kapur’s nomination as a significant move in U.S. foreign policy toward the region, especially at a time when stability in South Asia remains a key strategic concern for Washington.
