Allegations of Bribery Against KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur; Disqualification Petition Filed in Election Commission

PESHAWAR: A petition seeking the disqualification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has been filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over allegations of bribery and misuse of provincial funds.
The petition was filed by Advocate Arsalan Afridi, who claimed that the chief minister approved a grant of Rs 50 million for the Lahore Bar Association—an act he termed as bribery and a breach of public trust.
According to the petitioner, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet sanctioned the release of funds to a bar association located in another province, which is a misuse of provincial resources. He argued that provincial funds are a trust meant solely for the welfare of the province’s people and cannot be allocated to another province unless under emergency or disaster circumstances.
The petition further states that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is already facing financial difficulties, and diverting its resources externally undermines public confidence and violates the chief minister’s oath and constitutional mandate.
Referring to relevant constitutional provisions, Supreme Court rulings, and the NFC Award framework, the petitioner has urged the ECP to declare Gandapur disqualified and initiate legal proceedings. He also called for the de-notification of Gandapur from his provincial assembly seat.
