Eid-ul-Adha: Butchers Hike Charges as Amateurs Enter the Field in Lahore

Lahore: As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, professional butchers in Lahore have significantly increased their rates for animal slaughter, while untrained and amateur butchers have also flooded the market, offering their services at lower prices.
According to a report by Express News, many citizens who have already purchased sacrificial animals are now struggling to find reliable butchers. The high demand during the three days of Eid has led professional butchers to charge steep fees, with some looking to make a double profit this festive season.
Reportedly, in Lahore, professional butchers are demanding Rs. 10,000 for slaughtering a goat and Rs. 18,000 for a cow on the first day of Eid. On the second day, the rates drop slightly to Rs. 6,000 for a goat and Rs. 10,000 for a cow.
The inflated rates have opened the door for amateur butchers — many of whom have traveled from remote areas — to offer their services at nearly half the cost. However, concerns remain about the quality and hygiene of the services provided by these inexperienced individuals.
Residents have expressed frustration, stating that butchers are demanding exorbitant prices, especially for so-called “VIP” sacrificial animals, making it difficult for many to afford proper slaughtering services during the religious holiday.
